7:00 PM
Contributing artist, Leeza Meksin will be present at the reception for a walkthrough of the exhibition. Meksin's two pieces will be on display in "Object[ed]," one of those being the site-specific installation of architectural structures donning drag. Our museum will be subject to this act of softening and feminizing the hard and masculine surfaces of construction.
7:00 - 9:00 PM
MAIN GALLERY
"Object[ed]: Shaping Sculpture in Contemporary Art" is the the amalgamation of six regional and international female-identifying artists that employ sculpture to illuminate the realms between objectivity and subjectivity. Caught between the linguistics of gender politics and the orthodox artistic medium of sculpture, this show curated by Rebecca Maksym deconstructs and redefines traditional notions of masculine three-dimensional work that exploits the feminine form while promoting patriarchal values.
PROJECTS GALLERY
In Andrew Rice's solo exhibition, "(re)Structured" he fabricates isolated environments that are akin to shells through the vessel of an oilstick. Evoking an autonomous state, Rice invites the viewer to determine if loneliness and independence are integral to one another.
CODEC GALLERY
Video and performance artist, Berna Reale investigates current social frictions that span from criminal justice to capitalism to gender inequality within the borders of Belém Brazil. In Reale's film, "Singing in the Rain" she parodies the Hollywood classic song of the same title while dancing through a landfill, converging irony with reality. Reale deconstructs fetishization of the exotic while focusing the viewer's attention upon conflicts within Brazil and it's vitality that affects global citizens.
A-I-R SPACE
In "Sehnsucht," local artist in residency, Cara Krebs creates work that exists at the intersection of fantasy and reality. The fusion between painting and installation, Krebs' solo exhibition examines essences of the otherworldly. Philosophically engaged in desire and longing, Krebs work references a yearning for escapism and release of what we have known.
