40th Anniversary of the first Gay Freedom Day in Utah

Come join us for a Family picnic up City Creek Canyon. Yes, 40 years ago this day, Joe Redburn, Nikki Boyer and patrons of the Sun Tavern went up City Creek Canyon for a kegger to celebrate Gay Freedom Day. Bring food and any kind of drink for you and your group. The pavilion is the very last up the canyon. Parking is EXTREMELY limited. PLEASE carpool. Mention that you are with QSaltLake / Area 30 to avoid a $3 fee to drive up the canyon. This is a free event sponsored by QSaltLake. This will be very low-key. How many of you have even been up this canyon? Beautiful City Creek flows right by. There are limited tables. Bring camping chairs if you'd like. A table would be great. Enjoy a day with the Family. We'll start at 2 and go through 6pm. Though it is only 5.5 miles up the canyon, expect it to take about 20 minutes for the drive from the gate. To get there: Go to the Avenues, to the very top of B Street. Follow the road down into the canyon that is shared with joggers and cyclists. Just before the road starts to head back south, there is a pullout that allows you to go further up City Creek Canyon. There is a gate a a huge sign that says "Authorized Vehicles Only." You are authorized. You will be asked to pay Salt Lake City $3 for the drive. Go 5.5 miles up the canyon. You cant go too far - we are the last area. Carpool. I'm afraid there are rules: 1. Drink responsibly, as it is a narrow, windy road. 2. No pets. This is Salt Lake watershed area and they aer serious - no pets 3. Bring your own food and/or QSL will have burgers and hot dogs. 4. Remember water. 5. Carpool. Watch for hikers/joggers/bikes on the road - 15mph. 6. Use Restrooms 7. Pick Up Trash 8. Prevent Forest Fires - Observe restrictions and put out fires. No fireworks. No shooting. 9. Prevent Erosion - Stay on trails 10. Swimming and wading in the stream is prohibited 11. There is no cell service.
